Curls

Most people with curly hair have never had it properly cut

They have had it shampooed, blow-dried straight, cut flat, and sent home without a word of explanation. They have tried product after product, sat in chair after chair, and been left more confused than when they walked in. Some have gone years without a professional haircut because the last experience was so dispiriting they could not face another one.

If that sounds familiar, you are not alone. Every new client who sits in Ranee’s chair arrives with some version of that story.

“After five years of struggling to find the right curly hairdresser, I’m so grateful to have found Ranee and this salon.” — Bianca

“I no longer have to cut my own hair or fix up my own hair like I have in the past from other salons.” — Karren

The problem is not your hair

For decades, the hairdressing industry cut curly hair the same way it cut everything else: wet, straightened, flat. The result never looked right at home because curly hair needs to be cut at the right point on each individual curl, while dry, one curl at a time. That is a technique most hairdressers were simply never taught.

Ranee has been practising curl-friendly dry cutting for years. She trained under practitioners certified in the method, uses custom curved scissors, and cuts each curl individually. The concentration it requires is considerable, and the difference in results is immediate.

Many clients arrive saying they just have a wave. They leave with curls they did not know they had.

“I have previously been told that I had some curl to my hair but wow, the amount of curl I have now is mind blowing.” — Irene

“After two curly cuts, great advice and loads of positive encouragement, my frizzy hair is now curlier than I thought was possible.” — Jackie

All curl types, including yours

Jarnell works with the full range of curl types: loose waves, ringlets, corkscrews, coils, tight textured curls, and Afro curl. Many salons that claim curl expertise are less confident with tighter, more textured curl patterns. Ranee is not. She has been working with the full spectrum for years and understands that each curl type has its own requirements, its own cutting approach, and its own at-home care needs.

“As someone with tight 4B/4C curls, finding a hairdresser who understands and appreciates curly hair has always been a challenge for me. Ranee’s expertise in dry curly haircuts made all the difference.” — Bianca

What happens at your appointment

Every curl appointment at Jarnell follows the same unhurried process.

The consultation comes first. You sit down face to face with your stylist before anything is touched. Your curl type, hair condition, colour history, daily routine, and lifestyle are all considered. What you want your hair to do on a regular basis matters as much as what it looks like on the day.

The cut is done dry, one curl at a time, using a technique that works with your natural curl pattern rather than against it. If you are having a colour service as well, that is planned and carried out with the same level of care and precision.

The styling and education happen together. As your hair is dried and finished, your stylist walks you through every product, every amount, and every step of the process. You are shown how to manage your hair on wash day, and on the days that follow.

“Every step was explained in detail to help me better understand my hair and has increased my confidence in maintaining my curls.” — Michelle

“Came in to get a curly cut and left with a fantastic cut and valuable knowledge catered to my individual needs.” — Michelle

Your personal prescription

Every client leaves with a written, 3.5-page personal prescription. It covers the specific products used, the exact amounts, the full wash-day process, and guidance on managing your hair on day two, three, and four. It also covers how to sleep with your hair, and what to do when environmental factors, whether that is swimming, heat, or humidity, throw things off.

It is not a generic brochure. It is written for your hair, and you take it home.

“I was given a physical copy of everything we discussed during my appointment, so I can continue the curly girl method at home. I feel so confident to continue the method on my own.” — Emily

“The personal prescription is invaluable.” — Irene

“They send you home with a personally prescribed routine and the perfect products to complete your style independently. They know you by name and all pick up on the last conversation points from your previous appointment.” — Kelly

We are here for the journey

Each visit builds on the last

A first curl appointment at Jarnell is the beginning of a process, not a one-off result. The condition of your hair improves progressively with each visit. Your curl definition deepens. Your at-home routine becomes faster and more confident. Clients who arrive exhausted by their hair leave with something they have not had before: a clear plan, the tools to follow it, and a team who will pick up exactly where they left off next time.

“My curls are defined, hydrated and doing things they have never done before.” — Annie

“I always had it up and complained about it constantly. Now I have the confidence to wear it down and be proud of it. I also receive many more compliments about my hair.” — Emilie, age 15

“So much care and attention. Wish I had discovered them 30 years ago.” — Jen
